I Felt Like "Kena" Cheated / Scammed RM448 By Groupon Malaysia @ Bad Shopping Online Experience

Today I have a not very good day as it seems like bad things come in batch. Well, one of the issue I faced recently is the "Get scammed case by Dim Sum King Steamboat Queen (皇后火锅点心) buffet" deals that my sister bought from Groupon Malaysia during #MYCYBERSALE 2015. The Groupon deals is from RM30 for an À la Carte Dim Sum Buffet at Dim Sum King VS Steamboat Queen (worth up to RM204.80) as in Buffet for 1 person for RM30 instead of RM51.20, Buffet for 2 people for RM58 instead of RM102.40 or Buffet for 4 people for RM112 instead of RM204.80.
My sister have bought 2 pcs of RM112 deals from Groupon but the system overcharge another 2 deals due to system failed according to my sister as shown below.
Hence, I told her that she can 100% get back her credit/money from Groupon since most of my online friend said sure can get back if you haven redeem it.

However, I just received a message from my sister that they wouldn't want to refund it. The details of the reply from Groupon's customer service is shown below.

Reply from Groupon's CS.
Hi,

Thanks for getting in touch.

As checked the there is only 4 vouchers purchased and the amount deducted was RM448.00.

If you would like to buy a Groupon in the future, you will need to complete the purchase by filling out every field on the page. When you complete this process you will see a "Thank you" screen. You will also get an email confirmation right away and your Groupons will show as "processing" in your account.

If you were charged for this transaction, can you kindly provide us the proof of payment (screenshot of receipt) so we can check with the relevant department and see what could have gone wrong.

I’m sorry to hear that you were not able to use your Groupon voucher. As the expiry date was stated in the Fine Print section on the voucher and on the deal page, we’re unfortunately unable to action refunds at this stage. If you ever have an issue with a Groupon, we’ll be happy to help, but it’s always best if you let us know about the issue within the validity period. Apologies for any inconvenience caused.

If there is anything else I can help you with, please let me know.

Kind regards,

Ish

My sister reply.
Dear Ish,

What do you mean by now? Groupon is not holding responsible for this and you are not going to refund the full paid amount?! We are the customer who follow the instructions from your page step by step for the checkout but something goes wrong with your system that cause the transactions go though without asking us to key in OTP during the checkout page.

Please refer attached screenshot of receipt  for the duplicated amount had been deducted from my credit card and I was shocked to find out from my credit statement.

Mind that this is not the first time I did purchase goods from Groupon. I'm a returned loyal customer of Groupon. That's the reason why I reported the issue under case Case ref: 1271XXX immediately to alert Groupon on the system issue. This is the first time I encounter this problem and it breaks my confident for Groupon.

During the report, I was told that Groupon will refund the duplicated amount to me upon redeem of the voucher during the valid period (14/7/15 to 29/11/2015). Further confirmation with service desk and I was told by means the voucher is expired on 30/11/15.

And so I have book an appointment with the shop owner at this no. 03-56137707 to redeem the voucher on 29/11/15 (Sunday) to celebrate my father's birthday. However, on the day itself we found that the shop is already closed and I was told by the neighbours that the shop is already closed for 2 weeks!

I was so upset to know this thus I quickly alert Groupon again but sad to hear that Groupon is not doing anything to reimburse for the lost due to the silly reason that why I didn't redeem the voucher during the validity period (in fact I did)! Please take this seriously as the amount is huge and it is upsetting me as the fault is at the system (for website and merchant). We have no control on the system and it seems you did a scam on your customer! I need a favourable answer for this.

It is my first time to see my sister wrote such a long email and she said it is no use even if I wrote this issue and post it in my blog. Well, I do ask one of my friend, Ms Wan from the payment company about filing dispute case and her reply is as follow.

You may directly contact the Hong Leong Bank by provide the following information:

1) Credit Card Statement which had shown the Groupon transaction
2) Groupon's email which the agree to proceed refund to you
3) Your Groupon account print screen which your account clearly show that no E-Voucher was sent to your account
4) Dispute reason: Credit Not Process

For your information, Hong Leong Bank may charge you a fee due to need to handle your dispute case. If not mistaken is around RM15.00

However, she said that there is no 100% guarantee can get back as her reply is as below.

If you able to provide the above mentioned items to bank and confirm that there is not E-Voucher received in your Groupon account / email & no refund from Groupon at all. So the case high possible can win.

I cannot guarantee that 100% confirm can get back, but high chances. How long? It really depends on how fast the bank do the representment.

Well, I guess it is kinda hard to get refund from Groupon as I felt like "kena" (get) cheated / scammed RM448 by Groupon Malaysia for my sister as our conversation below.
It should be a happy post since it is a celebration for my father's advance birthday celebration on November. From this bad shopping online experience, I learned that good things usually don't come cheap and don't waste your time finding cheap deals if you want good thing. Now I start to understand why people still prefer going the place to eat instead of buying voucher online from group buying website as it could be just waste of your money and time to find cheap things.
=(
