I have always wanted to visit the Lion City or Singapore, so I started looking into coach buses departing from Kuala Lumpur. I didn’t wish to spend much on transportation, but at the same time, I wanted to travel comfortably without taking forever to arrive at my destination.
I booked my ticket for a one way trip via catchthatbus.com since I have used it before and knew there were no booking fees to book a bus online ticket. Without even leaving home to buy the ticket, I got to ride in an executive coach and select the seat, all for just under RM 55 (about 13 USD).
I simply browsed the list of available trips and bus operators until I found the seat and time that were the most convenient to me. Even though the bus operator chosen accepts e-ticket, I still printed out my ticket, just to be on the safe side, before leaving for the departure hall.
Once there, I didn’t have to wait long, and my bus arrived. The estimated time when travelling to Singapore from Kuala Lumpur is 5 to 7 hours, but the bus left at 07:30 AM and arrived at 13:30 PM, in as little as 6 hours. The usual pick-up point for Kuala Lumpur to Singapore bus trips is the integrated terminal at the Bandar Tasik Selatan Station, which is also known as Terminal Bersepadu Selatan. I could have gotten there with the RapidKL bus, but the only option for the date and time I wished to travel was the KTM Old Railway Station. In fact, this is one of the three optional pick-up points offered by CatchThatBus on Kuala Lumpur to Singapore trips.
On the bus
The bus was indeed very comfortable and in good condition, with meals served on the board and a TV! In fact, after looking out the window for some time, I got a little hungry and ate some of the vegetarian food they provided; when I purchased my bus ticket online, they asked me about my meal preference, and I selected vegetarian – I was quite happy I had this option.
After having the meal, I watched a movie on the in-seat screen before me, and time flew. The chairs were comfortable and reclining, with safety belt and plenty of legroom so that I was able to shift around from time to time and not get numb on one side – that’s a big plus for me!
Maybe next time I will take my laptop along and get some work done until I reach the destination.
At around 13:30 PM, the bus dropped me off at the Plaza on Beach Road in Singapore, one of the two bus stops there (the other is the Golden Mile Tower). And since I was there already, I began my Singapore journey with a halt at the Plaza Brasserie – I was just in time for a delicious lunch!
